Oregon Courtyard

The Oregon Courtyard is a mirror image of the courtyard at Geology Corner designed by the famous landscape architect Thomas Church.

The Oregon Courtyard was a joint venture involving the Stanford Planning Office and the Grounds Department. The courtyard is located on the east side of the Main Quad just off Lasuen Mall, across from the School of Education.

The courtyard is named in recognition of Stanford alumni and friends from the state of Oregon in appreciation of their loyal support following the October 17, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. Their gifts to the Stanford Restoration Fund helped make possible the repair, renovation and seismic strengthening of Stanford's historic buildings.

Trees within the courtyard garden include Japanese Flowering Cherries (Prunus serrulata 'Amanogawa' and 'Mt. Fuji'). The trees were a gift of the Gifu Cherry Blossom Association. A visit to the courtyard in late March when the trees are blooming is especially rewarding.
