Tree Yucca, St. Peter's Palm
Yucca filifera

There are two significant specimens of Yucca filifera, (syn. Yucca australis) on the Stanford University campus. Both are over 90 years old, probably planted around the year 1912. They bloom in early to mid-summer. The creamy white flowers grow in pendant panicles 3 to 5 feet long. Yucca filifera is native to Mexico.

The larger of the two Yucca filiferas, shown in the first photograph, is located on the north side of the Cantor Museum.

The second specimen is located on the edge of the west arrowhead bed in the Stanford Arizona Garden, south of the Mausoleum. The largest of its two trunks is over fifty inches around. There is a third, smaller Yucca filifera on the east side of the Arizona Garden.
